“2 roads diverged in a wood & I – I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference.”
- Robert Frost

Went for the test today. Think I aced it. =) It’s not hard, much like the IQ tests administered by MENSA. Walking out of the building, I thought to myself, which path should I take? The one less travelled with an uncertain future or the one that had been proven to contain the same life which I had been accustomed to? An explorer sails in the high seas, with the anticipation of discovery. I too, desired the same.

In a gist, the above are the things that have been going on in my mind. Which way to the end result? Both do. Which way would have greater returns? Uncertain.

“It’s not what people do, it’s who they are that makes the difference.”

Personally, either way suits me fine. I believe I will excel just as I had and make myself of value. I had decided to that.

I await my test results as I sort out my mind. I looked up what it meant to be in the Infantry as defined by the world:

  1. The Infantry is expected and trained to continue on with the mission despite personal fear, despair, fatigue and injury.
  2. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous; Armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on: through the foe, to the objective, to triumph over all. If necessary, I fight to my death. – Excerpt from U.S. Army Infantry Creed
  3. Very strong bonds that last an entire lifetime form within these infantry units and there is a sort of professional respect given from one infantryman to another, both inside and outside of the military, which is based on a common understanding of what life is like on the inside of an infantry battalion and the character and discipline of the individuals who comprise them.
  4. “Let us be clear about three facts: First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the Infantry. Secondly, the Infantry always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the Infantry is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm.” – Field Marshal Earl Wavell, (1945)

I ask that you read a letter titled, In Praise of Infantry, by Field Marshal Earl Wavell in 1948.

What are the parallels of 1948 & today?
