I take the cab almost everyday. Partly because I work at some obscure place which is far from everywhere. I think I really did my part in contributing to economical growth by spending. Having been a good 3 years, what was my experience of “Cabbing“?
Frankly, I have never met a great Cab Driver, herein referred as “Cabsman“. I guess most are struggling to get the job done, few do it well and many failed. I’m not saying bad things about Cabsmen. I’m just painting a logical and rational view of things. When was the last time you met a GREAT Cabsman?
My workplace is rather secure, with a system of armed guards to prevent people with undesired motives to gain entrance. We have a pass system where we are issued with proximity passes to determine where we can access. The Cabsman will have to drop me at my workplace. Very often, we reach the entrance and the guard informs the Cabsman of the need to exchange his Vocational Licence for a Pass. The Cabsman will inquire with gusto in the line below.
Cabsman: “Huh? Need to change pass ah?”
Upon confirmation from me, Cabsmen will have 2 courses of actions:
1. He/She just obtains the Proximity Pass willingly.
2. He/She, usually a he, will be grumbling for the rest of the way.
And of his grumblings, there are several offerings (with the lacing of unpleasant words):
1. “So ma fan (troublesome). Why lydat? Stupid system. Waste of my time.”
2. “Last time no need wan leh. Why now need?”
3. “Aiyah! Next time don’t come here already.”
All I can do is to just say, “That’s the policy here.”
In life as much as people don’t like it, there are policies that aren’t exactly the best of things. Civilization has progressed to rationale and reasons, with the mildest of all, logic. Logic does not please all situations for where one is proven right, the other is outrightly wrong. Humans have developed their cerebral ability further than most of the Animal Kingdom (in lieu of undiscovered lifeforms). We have come to a point where we sacrifice Intuition & Instinct to Evaluation. In the process of Evaluation, it seems to rely on probability which side of logic we fall upon, given the high contrast of thoughts that run organizations these days. Very often, we take things that are going right for granted and victimize when things go wrong.
That’s when I should have told the Cabsman, “Take it easy. It’s not going to change for a while.”
Therefore, I conclude:
“With greater acceptance of things, a mere man will not be happier. There will just be lesser instances of anger and sadness. With the decrease in anger and sadness, he will have a greater sense of happiness and joy.”
