Do these girls look 16? (Hi Hobbits!) China’s Olympic Gymnasts have come under fire from the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) at the Beijing Olympic Games. FIG regulations have raised the minimum age of Olympians to 16 during the Olympic year, that is, the gymnast MUST turn 16 within the year. (It used to be 14, and competitors were found to be underage.) This was done to protect young children from sustaining permanent injuries during training, as children are put through tough and in commonality, impossible forms of training. Children are also less afraid of defeat and failure, they may be put through unacceptable regimes. (Pls let them play with their barbie dolls.)

As of date, China has provided the necessary identification documents for He Kexin (above), Gold Medallist for the Women’s Uneven Bars Event (it’s quite funny to call teenagers women, if you ask me.) & the Team Event. She outdone Nastia Liukin, US Gymnastic Star.

FIG has done preliminary checks on the documents and China seems set to be cleared from ineligibility charges. China seems to have trouble playing by the rules in the history of Olympics. I guess, I’ll look forward to covering the same topic 4 years from now in London. (It’s 2012 Olympics in London, in case you were sleeping through 2005.)

Anyway, today’s the last day of the Olympics and I only caught Li Jiawei in the Team Finals against China, what a life.
